Experience

Hello! I'm Tyler. I am a Master's candidate at the University of Connecticut studying Computer Science and Economics. I have been a teaching assistant for well over 500 students and am currently developing lectures for a flipped course in the Computer Science & Engineering Department. I have privately tutored friends and students in mathematics, computer science, and economics on and off for quite some time. I've always wanted to tutor consistently, but have been consumed by a massive courseload and other employment. Now that I have freed up my schedule a bit, I am excited to start tutoring in an official capacity! In my short three years at UCONN, I have taken 154 credits of courses in Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, and Public Policy and topped out at 33 credits in a single semester all while teaching as a full-time TA and working on research. You can be sure I know all of the ins and outs of getting coursework done well and on time. I am excited to pass on all of the hard-earned wisdom I've obtained from my time in academics. To toot my own horn a bit more, I am a 2017 Goldwater Scholar, University Scholar, Holster Scholar, STEM Scholar, and the recipient of university-based grants. I received a 2280 on my SAT and a 790 on the Mathematics Level 2 subject test. I entered college with roughly 70 credits. I took 10 AP exams and scored 4s and 5s on each thus earning the designation of National AP Scholar. On top of normal tutoring, I can provide significant insight into how to maneuver through academia as efficiently and effectively as possible! Logistics are my bread and butter.

Hobbies

I love running, unicycling, fencing, reading, programming, writing, teaching, and long walks on the beach. Er.. not so much that last one. Aside from the running and unicycling, I'm more of an indoors person. (That may not be too surprising given my credentials.) I also LOVE working on arbitrary fun side projects. Awhile back I created a series of programming tutorials targeted at those wanting to learn programming independently. I published them for free on YouTube under the alias "CoderTheTyler". Check them out! More recently I started the UCONN Open Grade Project, which seeks to release anonymous grade distribution data to the public to help students make more informed decisions. I'm still working on getting funding for that endeavor.. I typically spend a few hours every weekend volunteering. I am a Team Leader with UCONN Community Outreach, and I spend the winter months working with the Windham Region No Freeze Shelter. This past summer I mostly volunteered with the North East Street Team to collect data on youth homelessness in the area. Overall, I enjoy working with anyone and everyone from every walk of life!
